“They’d killed me, but I survived.”

Three years after Rory Riordan foiled her own murder, she still trusts no one—not Dr. Z, the eccentric college professor who has taken her under his wing; not Benji, the endearing, attractive classmate who insists on following her around; and certainly not Cy, the beautifully dark and mysterious boy who sits in the first row in Dr. Z’s Astrobiology class and asks far too many questions.

When Rory witnesses Cy being abducted by soldiers in the middle of the night, she finds herself immersed in a world that holds more secrets than she could imagine, even darker secrets than her own.

From #1 New York Times Bestseller Jamie McGuire, experience the perfect combination of her bestselling books Providence and Beautiful Disaster. This New Adult Sci-Fi Romance is an action-packed, whiplash-inducing roller-coaster ride. Page after page, this unpredictable, dark, and sexy nail-biter will keep readers guessing until the very end!

Actual rating 3.5 stars

While not the best Jamie McGuire novel I have read, I think this was a good, short sci-fi novel. It balanced the NA genre nicely with the supernatural elements, and I thought it was well written. As my rating reflects, I liked it, but overall, I wasn't totally in love with the story. I did find it a bit predictable, and as I said, it wasn't as great as previous Jamie McGuire novels. Rory was an okay lead, but I never fully connected with her and she did get on my nerves a bit. She was very wishy-washy, never fully committing to anything until the last second. I think if given more time, she could have been a great main character. And the "love interest" didn't really come into play that much. There is some hot and heavy romance, but not much, which to me means this barely qualifies as NA. The length of the novel both worked for and against the novel, because everything was rushed and the characters were never fully fleshed out. But, at the same time, I wouldn't have wanted the story to be longer because then the story would have dragged on and on. Nevertheless, knowing that this is a once-and-done novel, I think it's worth checking out if you like the sci-fi genre with NA romance thrown in the mix. Just don't go in expected anything amazing.

Happy reading :)

Apolonia edition by Jamie McGuire Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

Holy freaking wow! So I spent a majority of this book confused, and in emotional turmoil as I struggled between loving the right guy for her and trying to figure out where the other guy fit in. I was confused and my mind was frantically working to figure out this book, while completely unable to put it down. Then BAM, everything makes sense and you are left breathless, while still unable to put the book down and turning the pages as quickly as you can. This entire book was very different than anything I have ever read, and I loved ever agonizing second of it!
The reviews on this are confusing since a lot of them are about The Maddox brothers books. I had such mixed feelings on this book at first. I loved it and it is the first book in a long time that I just couldn't put down. For that reason I gave it 5 stars. It kept me gripped to the very last second. I was skeptical by the subject matter at first but Jamie wrote it beautifully. I was fascinated and intrigued by each page. My only complaint would be that I felt myself rooting for Rory and Cy but I can't hold it against the book 😂. Their relationship left me extremely confused but I got the feeling it was kind of supposed to. There are so many unanswered questions, I hope for a sequel!
I bought this book when it first came out but put off reading it for a while. It was not at all what I expected and even though it doesn't have as good of reviews I decided to read it anyways. I really enjoyed it. The summary that I originally read for the book was nothing like how the book actually turned out. Rory is a very skeptical girl after people tried to murder her and killed her family and best friend. She attends college and her dad's good friend is a professor there. She meets a boy named Benji who is completely in love with her and makes no effort to hide it from her. As the book goes on she begins to warm more to Benji but then she meets Cy and has an instant connection to him. Both Rory and Cy work for Dr.Z on interpreting data from a rock sample that was discovered in Antarctica. A government scientist steals the rock and here is where the story really picks up because of the secrets surrounding the rock. Here is where the book picks up in speed and action. I will say the first part of the book is a little confusing and slow trying to figure where the story is going. Once the action picks up the book really holds your interest. If you enjoy a good SyFy/paranormal book then I would pick this one up. It does have a love story involved which is a dominate aspect of the book. Overall, I would give the book 4.5 stars and read any sequels if Jamie McGuire wrote them.
I LOVED this book!!! Ok so I love all of Jamie McGuire's books so far but still!

I wasn't expecting the book to turn out how it did. It really surprised me! I loved the characters for the most part. At first Cy kinda gave me the creeps but as you go along into the book it made more sense why he was the way he was. An Benji had his stalker moments but after finishing the book it all made sense. It takes a very strong person to come back from what Rory did an still be semi ok, I mean sure she had her issues but who wouldn't after seeing your family brutally murdered and basically coming back from the dead yourself! Personally I would have had MAJOR MAJOR trust issues, and would have lived like a hermit! But, alas, that is me and not the this character, I would have loved to see her grow after what happened to her, but maybe that could be a prequel to this book (hint hint) overall this was a great book
I'm a big fan of Jamie McGuire, loved Beautiful Disaster, enjoyed Red Hill. I took a 4 year hiatus from reading because I went back to school and was too busy. Recently went on vacation and stumbled across her other books. Read the Providence series on vacation, enjoyed it but not as much as Beautiful Disaster. Started the Maddox brothers series. They are great light reads, formulaic, but fun to read. I took a break from that series for Apolonia. This one just stinks! The plot is choppy and confusing, characters fall in love with no juicy drama or interesting dialogue. The love triangle is weak. There are many unanswered questions, the ending is anticlimactic. I could understand if this was her first book, but it's not. I skimmed through the second half waiting and hoping it would get good at some point, but it never did. If you're looking for a sci-fi love triangle that is well written with characters you actually care about read The Host by Stephanie Meyer instead. Save your money and don't buy this one!!!
